Summer 2009

Hola! It has been awhile. We have been enjoying our summer so far. The weather just started getting humid and warmer. It finally feels like summer here in N.J. Summer began on June 21st. Wyatt had a Moving Up Ceremony on the 22nd of June, so he is officially a high school student now. He left to Camp on June 23rd. Mia knew that he was missing the first few days, but now does not even notice. We remind her about Brother Wyatt and point to his picture; she just smiles and looks at his picture. She has written two letters to Wyatt. Mia loves to go for bike rides and will hand me my helmet and put on her helmet, walk over to the front door and say “outside”. She loves getting the mail with Dada and will point and say “tree” on the way to the mail box. We went to a baseball game with Mia. Let me tell you it was easier when she just sat there. Now that she is mobile, it’s like reining in a wild monkey. She made us laugh because just when you thought she would calm down, she would be reaching to touch a stranger, walking between the seats (trying to make a get away), throwing the straw away to your drink, making her sippy cup disappear, clapping her hands with the crowd no matter who’s team is winning, dipping her hand in someone’s beer or crushing her cookies all over you because she felt like it. So as much as we like baseball, we are actually going to try again in 2 weeks. Wish us luck. I think we are insane to do so but we want to spend the time with her as well. We spent the first 4th of July at home. The fireworks in our hometown were very nice and we had a great view. On our 2nd Anniversary, July 5th, we were driving down to McGaheysville, Virginia for a week vacation. We visited the Shenandoah Valley Mountains (Hiked to a Waterfall), Luray Caverns, Shenandoah Caverns, Monticello House – (Thomas Jefferson lived in the house in 1770), Pool at the Resort, Water park at the Resort, City of Charlottesville and Harrisonburg, VA. Long Road trips are not meant for our 15 month old. She let us know when she had enough of being in the car. I won't give you details because we all have been there so I will leave it up to your imagination! My cousin Aida and Elena went with us and we had a great time. Mia’s First Birthday – April 16, 2009

Mia’s birthday party was on Sunday, April 19th. We had a lot of fun. I baked the butterfly pull-a-part cake not reading the directions first. As I pulled the pieces out of the oven I realized that I needed to place the pieces shaped like the butterfly diagram first. But with help from family, it turned out just as cute. It started at 4 p.m. We eat pizza, danced to music, played games outside, sang happy birthday and then opened the presents. Mia was happy the whole evening. When we sang happy birthday she just sat there staring at everyone. A cupcake was placed in front of her and she would not touch it. She would stick a finger in the icing and then pull back quickly. Brady eventually broke it up in pieces for her to eat. It was a great night of celebration. Abuelita and lito from Nicaragua were here to celebrate which was a special treat. We wish everyone could have been here in NJ to share Mia’s special day. Here are pictures for you to enjoy. Also, Mia is walking!
